The Big Clay Table: Extended Handbuilding Experience
There are many ways into clay.
This one gives you time.
The Big Clay Table is a slower, more spacious pottery experience designed for people who want to learn handbuilding without rushing through it.
Instead of meeting every week, we gather every other Saturday โ giving your work time to rest, dry, and develop naturally between sessions.
This is not a one-night sampler.
It is not a marathon.
It is a guided, start-to-finish experience built around learning real techniques, working thoughtfully by hand, and creating finished ceramic work you can keep.
How It Works
This experience takes place across four class sessions held every other Saturday, followed by a later pickup window once final firings are complete.
Session 1 โ Build Foundations
Youโll be introduced to core handbuilding techniques and begin your first projects.
Weโll explore the foundations of working with clay while building confidence with the material itself.
Session 2 โ Continue Building
We return to the table to continue building, refine ideas, and develop forms further.
This session allows space for experimentation, adjustment, and creative exploration.
Session 3 โ Finish Work
This session focuses on refining and completing your projects.
Youโll shape details, strengthen forms, smooth surfaces, and prepare pieces for firing.
Session 4 โ Glaze
Once your work has been bisque fired, youโll return to glaze your pieces and complete the final stage of the process.
Weโll explore finishes, surface choices, and glazing techniques before your final firing.
Pickup
Finished work is typically ready for pickup approximately 2โ3 weeks after the glazing session.
Pickup details will be coordinated during the final class.
Whatโs Included
- Approximately 12 lbs of clay per participant
- Studio glazes
- Bisque and glaze firings

What Youโll Make
Each participant works at their own pace, but this experience is intentionally designed to give you enough time, space, and material to create multiple finished handbuilt pieces.
There is room here to learn, revise, experiment, and develop your ideas more fully than a single-session class allows.

A Note Before You Sign Up
Clay takes time.
That is part of the beauty of it.
This class is designed to work with the material rather than against it โ giving you space to slow down, return, and build something real over time.
Youโll be guided throughout the process, but perfection is not the goal.
Attention is.
Patience is.
Learning the material is.
If youโve been wanting a pottery experience that feels thoughtful, manageable, and complete, this is a good place to begin.
Participants should be 18 or older.
Young people ages 16โ17 are welcome when accompanied by a participating adult.
Make Yourself at Home
The studio includes a refrigerator, stove, and oven, and participants are welcome to bring snacks or drinks.
Tea and coffee will also be available during sessions.
If you donโt see a schedule that works for you, Iโd love to hear your ideas.
