Saturday Makers (ages 13-17) at The Studio Above The Clouds

Once a month, a small group of teens comes together at The Studio Above the Clouds to explore a different material, process, or creative challenge.

We might work in clay, paint, collage, paper, printmaking, sculpture, found materials,  character design, or something much stranger.

There will be techniques to learn and a starting point for each session, but this is not a class where everyone is going to make the same thing. Things get...well...weird. 

You do not need to be “the art kid.”

You do not need previous experience.

You really do need to be willing to experiment, make decisions, solve problems, make some things that don't work (SO do not work!), and keep going anyway.

Upcoming Schedule

🐉 October 24: Creature Sculpture: Beautiful, Strange, or Both
Work with clay to design and build an original creature while exploring structure, form, texture, surface, and visual storytelling. Make it elegant. Make it unsettling. Give it six legs for reasons known only to you.

🕯️ November 28: Light + Shadow: Lanterns, Luminaries & Cut Paper
Explore negative space, pattern, translucent materials, color, and light while designing an original illuminated piece.

❄️ December 19: Winter Worlds: Miniature Environment Design
Build a small dimensional world using mixed media. A frozen forest, abandoned observatory, mountain settlement, dragon habitat, alien winter landscape—whatever belongs in your world.

📰 January 23: Altered Art: Layers, Images & Identity
Combine paint, collage, drawing, text, found imagery, and layered materials to create a piece that communicates something without having to explain everything.

🎭 February 27: Character Design: Who Lives Here?
Develop an original character through silhouette, expression, costume, objects, color, symbols, and environment. This can be human, fantastical, monstrous, mechanical, or entirely difficult to classify.

🏺 March 27: Artifact From a Civilization That Never Existed
Invent part of a culture and create an object that might have survived from it: a vessel, ceremonial piece, tablet, tool, mask, monument, map, symbol, or something archaeologists would argue about for the next hundred years.

🌿 April 24: Nature as Design Language
Look closely at natural forms, textures, repetition, growth, pattern, and structure, then use those ideas in printmaking, drawing, paint, and mixed media.

Projects are subject to change. Art has a habit of wandering into more interesting territory, and occasionally a new material, idea, season, or good nugget of weirdness will change the plan.

How It Works

We meet once each month from 2:00–4:30 PM at the Studio Above the Clouds in Suches, Georgia.

Sessions are intentionally small, with a maximum of six participants.

All materials, tools, instruction, and, when applicable, kiln firings are included.

Drop-Off & Pickup

Teen Art Lab is a drop-off program. Parents and guardians are not required to remain onsite.

Participants should be dropped off and ready to begin between 1:40 and 1:55 PM so we can start together promptly at 2:00.

The session ends at 4:30 PM.

Pickup is between 4:30 and 4:50 PM, and all participants must be picked up no later than 4:50 PM.

Because the studio is not staffed as a childcare facility outside scheduled program hours, extended supervision before or after the workshop is not available.

Parents/guardians must provide emergency contact information and the name(s) of anyone authorized to pick up the participant before the session begins. This may be emailed in advance to hello@serendipitysellers.com or provided in writing at drop-off.
