Most leadership language sounds clear until you stop and ask what the words actually mean.

Resilience. Innovation. Collaboration. Accountability. Trust. Strategy.

These words show up everywhere: in meetings, planning documents, evaluations, professional development, and everyday conversation. We use them constantly. But too often, we use them loosely. We assume shared understanding where there may be none.

And that matters.

Because when leadership language is vague, expectations become vague. Communication weakens. Outcomes drift. Teams end up responding to words that sound important without ever fully examining what those words are asking of them.

Beyond the Buzz is a monthly leadership series designed to slow that process down.

Each month, we take one commonly used leadership concept and examine it deeply through observation, reflection, discussion, and real-world application. This is not traditional leadership training, and it is not another session filled with polished talking points and empty frameworks. It is a structured, creative, and practical experience for people who want to think more clearly, communicate more precisely, and lead with greater intention.

How It Works

Each monthly session stands on its own, so you can join for a single topic or return throughout the year.

Each month includes:

A live opening session
A 1-hour virtual or in-person session introducing the month’s concept, framing questions, and guided worksheet.

Independent exploration
Participants spend time considering the concept through multiple lenses: sight, sound, touch, taste, and thought. This may include examples drawn from work, art, architecture, literature, music, lived experience, and the environments we move through every day.

A live closing session
A 2-hour virtual or in-person discussion to share insights, compare interpretations, and translate what emerged into clearer leadership language and practice.

What Makes This Different

This series approaches leadership language from a different angle.

Instead of rushing to define a term in neat, corporate shorthand, we examine it from multiple perspectives and ask harder questions:

What does this concept actually look like in the world?
What does it sound like in practice?
How does it feel when it is present?
How does it feel when it is absent?
Where has this word become lazy, flattened, or overused?
What do we really mean when we ask other people for it?

The result is not just a better definition.

The result is deeper understanding, more precise communication, and a stronger ability to express expectations and outcomes without hiding behind buzzwords.
